Periodic table block
d-block elements
The d-block occupies the middle of the periodic table, groups 3 to 12, where d subshells fill. A d subshell holds up to ten electrons, making the block ten groups wide. Its members are the transition metals: hard, dense, high melting metals with variable oxidation states and strong catalytic ability.
